Calvet armchair:
The architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) the most representative of Catalan Modernism, designed this furniture (stool, chair, mirror and bench) for his first work: The Calvet house at Casp street, which was awarded as the best building in Barcelona in 1900 by the town hall.Calvet's family was part of the new bourgeoisie of the time enriched by textile manufacturing.The whole was carved in oak, with reliefs and was manufactured by the workshop Casas i Bardés. In Calvet armchair, the circular seat, free of ornamentation, is attached by a bracket with heart-shaped back . The arms are connected to the same support and they end in an arched hand. Currently, you can enjoy admiring these pieces at the Gaudi Museum, in Guell Park. |
